I have enjoyed th Basil Hayden and for a bourbon whiskey it is pretty good. It is a bit light but it does have good crisp taste. But bourbon is not my drink of choice.

I lean more to whisky made in Scotland and Ireland. A heavier flavor and musky undertones are more my speed. I can put Jameson down easier than a coke - I don't keep any in the cabinet because its life there is measured in hours, not days.

Scotch whisky is the preferred drink for sipping whisky. Balvenie DoubleWood is my poison here. The Speyside process is my favorite of the 4 Scottish variants.

But then again, I have a buddy whose family in NC makes some mighty fine corn squeezing.

Still a Maker's Mark guy. Been nursing one bottle for years. Can't afford the really good stuff.

Basil is a bit light for me so far. Maybe another bottle will help establish the flavors for my internal catalog. ;)

If you have it in your area give Old Fitzgerald's, green label, Bottled In Bond a try. It's our house bourbon and drinks, we think, much higher up the shelves than you'll typically find it. Especially for a 100.

Finding it is getting harder though. We recently moved and the stores in the new neighborhood have some pretty sad whiskey isles.

My fave so far.

Basil is an excellent choice. Anything from Buffalo Trace will also fit the bill around here.
