NTSB is blaming an intern in their office for confirming those names, but nobody is saying where the station got those names in the first place.

That intern will probably never work in Washington again, but he's got a career in reality TV or morning FM radio ahead of him now.

Truly a joke that went rong... :-0 And that TV station must be oblivious to humor... THAT should have been the first clue!!!

Wong, so very very wong! LOL But, yeah, the first time I saw this, I ROFL'd! Personally, I think the TV station should be fined for having no clue. Could NOBODY there read the names and think "hey, these are funny in a very off-beat, morbid-ish manner, there's no way that there could be four individuals with names like that on the same plane that just happens to crash..."? Yep. Definitely a We're All Idiots fine.

RabidAlien: Sorry, but there's no law against being stupid. I think I prefer it that way.

Nigerian scam e-mails have a good chance of success at that station.

Remember, layers and layers of fact checking.

Being of a certain age, I can remember the original Doonesbury sequence that introduced Roland Burton Hedley Jr., late of the Saigon sports desk, to the Walden Commune crowd.

SLACKMEYER AND/OR DOONESBURY: "We give you our word of honor that we represent a national trend."

HEDLEY: (closes notebook) "That's good enough for me!"

I also seem to recall the press getting pwned on some insufficiently-verified piece on grunge culture, circa 1991-92.

It took them longer than I though to issue a take down order due to copyright infringement. Probably too late as the video has gone viral and no doubt has been downloaded thousands of times.

The TV station might was well get rid of their news department, it's not become a national joke.
