Little Big Town - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

It's hard being away from the family at this time of year.  I'm lucky in that my time away from the family is periodically broken by visits, sometimes me going home, sometimes them coming to me.  The troops deployed in harm's way and their families don't get this luxury.

But Country music still carries on the tradition of Bob Hope, remembering them.  This performance by Little Big Town at the CMA Christmas Concert has a touching reminder of the troops in the field.

Please Come Home for Christmas (Songwriters: Ralph Blane, Hugh Martin)
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.
This holiday season when you're surrounded by family and friends, remember them.

I think the line is "Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow."

the "Highest bough" was a later edit, to make a sad song a bit more cheerful.

The song as about being apart during the holidays, which is sad anytime, but even more during wartime.
