Saturday Wednesday Redneck

Too Old To Work, Too Young To Retire has a trifecta of Country Music awesomeness for you: Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas, and Hawkshaw Hawkins. No school like the old school.

If you're not reading him every day, well you're missing stuff like this.

And in other Country Music plane crash trivia, Waylon Jennings gave up his seat to the Big Bopper on Buddy Holly's last scheduled flight.

My youngest (I write about)called a radio station contest when she was about 13 and did a superb imitation of the Big Bopper on the air. Wish I had a recording of that.

Thanks for the linkage. The Buddy Holly - Waylon Jennings story reminds me of two things.

Although it's fair to say that the day that Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper died was "The Day the Music Died", I think it's equally fair to say that the day that Cline, Copas, and Hawkins died could be "The Day the Music Died".

Also, there wasn't that much difference musically between Country and Rock back then. Holly started out as a Country singer, Cline had a number of cross over hits. Maybe I'll explore that more in post at some point.
