Happy birthday, Union Jack



403 years ago, by royal decree of King James (the first of England, the Sixth of Scotland, of Jamestown fame to colonials on the left side of The Pond) a new flag made it's debut on ships of His Britannic Majesty's fleet. Combining the old English standard - the Cross of St. George - with the old Scottish standard - the Cross of St. Andrew, this is probably the second oldest national flag still in existence*.

* The Dannebrog (Danish national flag) is the world's oldest.
